If you are a business, company, or government office deducting or collecting Tax Collected at Source (TCS) under the Income Tax Act, you must be familiar with Form 27EQ. Filing Form 27EQ is a mandatory compliance requirement under the TDS/TCS provisions, and failure to file it correctly can attract penalties.

In this blog, we’ll explain what Form 27EQ is, when and how it should be filed, and provide a step-by-step guide for accurate and timely submission for FY 2025–26 (AY 2026–27).


๐Ÿงพ What is Form 27EQ?

Form 27EQ is a quarterly statement that must be filed by entities who have collected TCS (Tax Collected at Source) under Section 206C of the Income Tax Act. It includes details of:

  • The amount collected from buyers

  • The nature of the goods or services

  • TCS rates and amounts

  • PAN of deductees

  • Payment challan details

Form 27EQ applies to corporates, government offices, and non-government deductors collecting TCS on transactions such as sale of alcohol, scrap, minerals, motor vehicles, foreign remittance, etc.

Filing deadlines for each quarter of the financial year are as follows:

Q2 July – September 15th October
Q3 October – December 15th January
Q4 January – March 15th May

 

โš ๏ธ Late filing may attract a penalty of โ‚น200 per day under Section 234E.

  • Companies and Firms collecting TCS

  • Government departments

  • Local authorities

  • Any person liable to collect tax at source under Section 206C

Both residents and non-residents can be reported in this form.

Here are a few examples of transactions covered under TCS:

๐Ÿ’ป How to File Form 27EQ Online – Step-by-Step

  1. Prepare the TCS Data
    Use Tally, accounting software, or manual records to compile:

    • Buyer details with PAN

    • TCS section, amount collected

    • Challan number and BSR code

  2. Download and Install RPU & FVU
    Get the Return Preparation Utility (RPU) and File Validation Utility (FVU) from https://tin.tin.nsdl.com

  3. Fill in Form 27EQ in RPU
    Enter deductor details, challan info, TCS collection details, and validate the file using FVU.

  4. Login to TRACES or TIN NSDL
    Submit the validated FVU file either via:

    Digital Signature (DSC) or Electronic Verification Code (EVC) is needed for online filing.

  6. Download Form 27EQ Acknowledgment
    Once submitted, you’ll receive a 15-digit provisional receipt number. Keep this for your records.

  • Late Filing Fee (Section 234E): โ‚น200 per day (max TCS amount)

  • Penalty (Section 271H): โ‚น10,000 to โ‚น1,00,000 for non-filing or incorrect filing
